Silence is Golden?
Saying nothing weaves together North Carolina's Republican members of Congress with President Trump's inane tariff policy
Tariffs are us, says President Donald Trump who is totally and completely responsible for increased prices of every day goods and services and the decline of the stock markets and personal wealth.
Shush! We support Trump’s tariffs
What do Ted Budd, Chuck Edwards, Virginia Foxx, Pat Harrigan, Mark Harris, Richard Hudson, Brad Knott, Addison McDowell, Tim Moore, Greg Murphy, David Rouzer, and Tom Tillis have in common.
They love tariffs, and they totally and completely support President Donald Trump’s massive tariffs placed on friends and select foes as well as a couple of islands inhabited only by penguins.
How do we know of this support from the North Carolina coalition to the United States Congress: House of Representatives and Senate?
Because “Silence is Golden,” and none of them have the backbone to speak out against the inane—senseless, unimaginative, empty, silly—policy which is stripping retirement accounts of un-calculative amounts of value and increasing prices of everyday goods and services across the United States.
It’s Trumps Trade War, and he thinks he can bully the world. He’s good at bullying the Republicans in Congress so why not the world?
And, since silence is golden, saying nothing against the tariffs says a lot for the President’s showboat executive orders, especially the ink on paper that causes the stock markets to near collapse and recession levels while the grocery markets increase prices.
What’s the meaning of “Silence is Golden?” From the website Phrase Finder: A proverbial saying, often used in circumstances where it is thought that saying nothing is preferable to speaking.
When those members of Congress from North Carolina don’t speak, they are shouting from the rooftop of the Capitol rotunda of their agreement with Trump and his tariffs and his Trade War.
Don’t let them deny their support. Each are one of many Republicans from all other states of the United States who say nothing to show their support. There are 220 Republicans seated in the US House and 53 in the US Senate, and none of them (maybe one or two in the Senate but not from my home state) have voiced against Trump and his trade war.
Trump and his imperial followers spout gibberish from their brains, all or nothing. The company line says these policies will take about two years to work out the kinks, and then all will be good.
How do I know? One of my golfing buddies who bleeds Trump blood believes it more than his ability to sink a four-foot putt when $6.00 is on the line. “Okay, I missed the putt but we’ll all be better off in two years,” I paraphrase him. Especially as he continues to lose the $6.00 ante. It must be true.
Tariffs are paid by the receiver of goods and services coming from outside the United State and into the United States. Trump says United States companies manufacturing goods from the countries on his list will move their plants to the United States, avoiding the tariffs.
That may be so, but—and I wouldn’t bet $6.00 on it— it’s a long process that has tremendous costs which will increase prices to consumers, especially all the goods and services from Heard and Mcdonald Islands that are inhabited by penguins only.
Are the penguins coming to America? First there was the massive protest of Trump’s tariff policy. What’s next?
Contact your members of Congress!
To send an letter through the US Postal Service is probably the slowest method of contact but members of Congress appreciate the time and effort you put in a written letter.
An email might allow you to include more information, but to email you must use a form on each member’s website, and usually the members of the House limit that communication to those living in his or her district.
Last, but maybe the best, is calling and asking simple questions: Are you in favor of Trumps Trade War that uses tariffs? If so, why?

These are all Republicans who are chicken to buck Trump for fear of their job in Washington. No guts, no glory for all of them.
If I were in charge at the Democratic Party, I’d be running advertisements on the main stream and social media platforms tying Republican members of Congress to the financial situation the tariffs will produce.
“Hi, I’m your representative in Congress and I will not speak out against Trump’s trade war with the world, so therefore I’m for a sinking stock market which is reducing your retirement investments and for increasing prices of all goods and services, reducing my everyday financial needs.”
It would be a one-sided campaign to peg every Republican in Congress (and probably in your state’s General Assembly) with a closed mouth policy.
Silence is Golden is a good way to explain the total and complete support Republicans in Congress are giving to Trump. But if you’re not a Trump policy supporter, silence is no way to act.
